Squarespace Web Design for Rhode Island Small Businesses
Custom Squarespace websites for business owners in Rhode Island and southeastern Massachusetts. We build every page to be clean, easy to navigate, and easy for your customers to find on search engines and AI platforms.
Omni Search Labs is a small studio of three senior specialists with 80 years of combined experience in search engine optimization, web development, and brand design. We do not use junior staff or account managers. When you hire us, you work directly with the experts from your first call to your website launch.
We are based in East Providence. We proudly serve small businesses across Providence, Warwick, Cranston, Newport, Pawtucket, Cumberland, and Bristol County.
Why Most Business Websites Fail to Generate Leads
Many business owners spend thousands of dollars on a beautiful website redesign. They launch the site with high hopes, but months later, the phone is still not ringing. This happens because most web designers focus only on how a site looks, rather than how a customer finds it. The reality is, they got into web development because of their passion for web design - not SEO.
Exceptional Visual Design Matched with Absolute Search Visibility
A successful website requires two core elements working in perfect harmony. First, it needs exceptional visual design, clear layout structure, and intuitive navigation so that your customers enjoy using the site and trust your business. Second, it needs master-level technical optimization so those customers can actually discover your business online across traditional search engines and modern AI platforms.
Most digital agencies excel at one side of this equation while treating the other as an afterthought. Graphic designers often build striking layouts that remain completely invisible to search engines. Conversely, technical search firms routinely configure highly visible websites that look uninspiring and fail to convert visitors into phone calls.
Omni Search Labs eliminates this compromise. We treat visual design, structural code, and search optimization as equal pillars of the exact same build.
When founder Chris Sheehy decided to offer web development services, he made the conscious decision not to offer a new deliverable the way web developers offer SEO. Instead of treating every new web project as a guessing game, hiring junior staff, or outsourcing the work offshore, he sat down with some local friends. Each partner brings credentials and deep experience that match his own tenure in the industry. It took a couple of months to iron out the details, but the Dream Team created is committed to offering enterprise level experience, to the local business community, at small-business budgets.
Our structure keeps us resource-lite, and our depth of experience efficient, which allows us to price our websites at these great prices, with flexible payment terms - exactly what this market needs!
The Reality of the WordPress Tax
Our team has nearly three decades of hands-on experience building and managing websites on both WordPress and Squarespace. WordPress is a powerful platform, and it is the right choice for large corporations that need massive, custom-coded data systems. However, for a small service business, it often comes with an expensive hidden cost.
WordPress is an open-source system. To add basic features like contact forms, booking calendars, or security tools, you must install software plugins built by independent developers. Because these plugins change constantly, they require regular manual updates. If they are ignored, your website can break or become vulnerable to hackers. Most local agencies charge around $200 dollars a month, just to manage these updates and fixes when things don’t work. At OSL, we call this the WordPress Tax, and we believe small businesses should not have to pay it.
Squarespace, on the other hand, is a closed, fully managed system. They handle the core code, the, and all security updates automatically behind the scenes. When we connect plugin or theme to your site, it communicates through a secure gateway without touching your core files - the code of your website - the way WordPress does. If an outside tool experiences an issue, your website stays online. There are no plugin conflicts to worry about, and no late-night phone calls about a broken website.
By eliminating the WordPress Tax, you save $2,400 dollars every year. That’s hard-money you can reinvest into business growth activities, like high-quality photography, video, adding more web content/pages, or a healthy Google Ads campaign that actually brings in new customers.

Our Standard Six-Page Website Package
We believe in upfront, honest pricing. Our foundational website package starts at 3,000 dollars and includes the six core pages your small business needs to succeed:
Home Page: A clear overview of your business that tells visitors exactly how you can help them.
About Page: Your company background and credentials, written to build trust with local customers.
Services Page: A detailed layout of what you offer, the benefits to the customer, and how to get started.
Contact Page: A secure, custom contact form designed to collect customer leads easily.
Thank-You Page: The confirmation page visitors see after submitting your form. We count your contact form and this confirmation page as a single page, whereas other firms often bill them as two separate pages.
Foundational Business Page: An additional core page tailored to your needs, such as a customer reviews display, a photo gallery of your work, or an extended service description.
Bonus Value: We include a standard privacy policy page for your business at no additional charge, helping your site meet basic compliance rules.
Flexible Content Options
If you provide the text: If you write the core business descriptions yourself, we review, format, and optimize the copy for search engines as part of the base 3,000 dollar package. Additional pages are 500 dollars per page.
If we write the text for you: If you want our team to handle the writing, the investment is 600 dollars per page. This includes up to 500 words of professionally written copy per page, crafted to appeal to both local buyers and modern AI search engines. Longer pages are billed at a flat rate of 100 dollars per additional 100-word block.
A Fair-Shake Milestone Payment Structure
We do not believe in massive upfront costs or surprise bills. We split your investment into three equal parts to ensure your project stays on track:
First Payment (33%): Paid at project signing to secure your launch date on our studio calendar.
Second Payment (33%): Paid after you review and approve the final design, right before we take the website live.
Third Payment (33%): Paid 30 days after your website launch. This gives you a full month of real-world use. We provide all copy and layout corrections completely free of charge during these first 30 days.
Serving Our Local Small-Business Community
We intentionally focus our web design services on regional service providers and small operations, including:
Trade and Service Companies: Contractors, HVAC professionals, electricians, plumbers, roofers, and automotive repair shops.
Regional Manufacturers: Small and mid-sized local machine shops, job shops, and industrial support services.
Main Street Businesses: Local restaurants, retail shops, medical practices, legal firms, and professional service providers.
Nonprofit Organizations: Community groups, foundations, and educational organizations across Rhode Island and southeastern Massachusetts.
What If Your Current Website Doesn't Need a Rebuild?
We build new websites exclusively on Squarespace, but we optimize websites on all platforms. If you already have a functional WordPress, Wix, or Shopify website that is structurally sound but completely invisible to search engines, you do not need to buy a brand-new website from us. We will tell you honestly whether your existing site is worth saving, and we can add our advanced optimization systems directly to your current platform.
And if you’re on WordPress - you can weigh the value of shedding the WordPress Tax, to reinvest the savings into your business.

WordPress is an open-source platform. When you install a plugin or a theme, you are adding software built by independent developers directly into your website's core files. Because these pieces are constantly changing, you have to continually update the core software, PHP versions, and plugins to prevent your site from breaking or getting hacked. Many agencies I know, charge around $200 a month (some more, some less). That totals $2,400 a year, just to keep the website running. We call this the "maintenance tax," and it is a cost small businesses simply do not need to pay. And you won’t with Squarespace.
-
Fair question, and the answer is in how each platform handles outside software.
WordPress plugins are open-source code installed directly into your website's core files. When you activate a plugin for SEO, booking, e-commerce, chat, security, or anything else, that plugin's code becomes part of your site. If the plugin developer pushes an update, your site has to update too — or the old version breaks, conflicts with the next WordPress core update, or opens a security hole. Multiply that by 15 or 20 plugins, and the maintenance never stops.
Squarespace Extensions are different. They're not installed into your site. They're external services that connect to your site through a secure API — the same kind of connection your site uses to talk to Google Analytics or the payment processer Stripe. The extension lives on the third-party developer's servers. They maintain their own code. Squarespace maintains the platform code. Your site doesn't have to "update" anything, because nothing was injected into your core files in the first place.
The practical difference: a WordPress plugin can break your site. A Squarespace Extension can stop working, but it can't take your site down with it.
That's the architectural reason the maintenance tax exists on one platform and not the other.

This is perhaps the most common myth in the web development industry. Search engines like Google do not rank platforms; they rank performance, content, site structure, and user experience. Squarespace provides an exceptionally clean, fast, and mobile-responsive technical foundation right out of the box. As an agency with a 1997 origin in search visibility, we have optimized and ranked hundreds of websites across every major platform. The reality is that an expertly optimized Squarespace site will consistently outrank a poorly optimized WordPress site. We bake our advanced Search Everywhere Optimization (SEvO) methodologies directly into the build, ensuring your site is engineered to rank from day one.
If you discovered Omni Search Labs through an online search rather than a personal recommendation, that serves as real-world proof of our strategy. -
Not necessarily. While we exclusively build new websites on Squarespace, our optimization services are strictly platform-agnostic. If your current WordPress, Wix, or Shopify site is structurally sound but invisible to search engines, I can help you with that.
-
Absolutely not! We have two pricing models for all websites, one for when content (wording and imagery) are provided by the client, and one slightly higher per-page for when we will write your content and provide either custom AI-generated imagery or select stock imagery. That said, nothing beats original photographs and video, and we offer that in-house too!
-
Honest answer: it depends on scope, and I'll quote you after the discovery call — not before. The variables that move the price are the number of pages, the depth of content development, photography and video needs, and how much custom design work the brand requires. A focused service-business site looks very different from a content-heavy site with custom photography and a full brand system.
There's no minimum page count and no retainer required. If your current site is structurally sound and you only need optimization, the engagement looks completely different — those are scoped on the SEO services side, not as a build.
When the quote comes, it's a written scope with fixed pricing and a clear timeline. No hourly billing surprises, no change-order games. And SEO is included in the price - not a separate line item (although, we do have additional services if you need to go deeper).
If we're not a fit, I'll tell you on the discovery call and point you to a local friend who might be. -
Page speed depends on several moving parts, such as your visitor's phone, their internet connection, how large your images are, and how well the site code is organized. WordPress websites are frequently slowed down because they run 15 to 20 different developer plugins at the same time. Squarespace avoids this because it does not use plugins in its core system. We manually compress every image and audit every outside code element to ensure your site loads quickly on mobile phones and desktop computers.
-
Website moves can be risky if they are managed by traditional designers who do not understand search engines. Because search engine optimization is our foundational skill, we take extreme care during migrations. We map your old website links carefully and use proper redirection paths to protect your established history. Most of our clients see an increase in their online visibility shortly after we launch their new platform - how long that can take depends on the performance history of your website, competitiveness, quality of web content. For some, changes can take weeks to show up - for other industries, especially regulated ones, it could take about a year. It something we can talk about during a discovery call, and before you make any commitments.
-
No. While Squarespace provides generic layouts as a starting point, same as all website platforms, our studio designs custom web environments using the built-in Fluid Engine editor and tailored code. We customize your typography, color systems, and navigation paths to match your unique brand. No two sites we build look or function the same.
-
Easy! If you want to do it yourself - Chris can create a step-by-step guide for you and walk you through it - or, of course, we would be happy to copyright your content, format it with the same care and structure as the rest of your website, make sure the voice matches the rest of your website, and publish it for you!
-
It depends on what your business requires. If you need a massive custom database, an independent social network, or a complex web application, WordPress is the correct tool. For small and regional service businesses, modern managed platforms offer all the power you need. In fact, major enterprise brands use this exact same framework. Disney's Pixar uses Squarespace to run their global corporate website at https://www.pixar.com/. If this platform is reliable and secure enough to display the work of a world-renowned entertainment studio, it’s probably more than capable for you too.
